Chill out in this beautiful 'retreat'

We stayed at Full Monte for just over a week. Although we had to park our campervan outside, (It's tents only), and use our own tent this was actually a welcome break as we'd been travelling for a month. Steve and Denise were fabulous hosts and made evereyone feel very relaxed. They're dedicated to protecting the environment so solar power is used as much as possible, there are compost loos (astonishingly efficient!), and they grow much of there own vegetables amongst beautiful flowerbeds in the grounds.
Whilst most of the guests were naturist, there were a few who preferred not to be and this simply wasn't a problem - a testament to how relaxed the place was. The grounds surrounding the house have lots of trees affording ample shade and there are comfortable outdoor 'lounge' and dining areas. Guests have full use of the kitchen and Denise provides delicious evening meals for those who don't want to self cater. If you're heading to Montenegro I can't recomment Full Monte enough. family feeling

Camp Full Monte is unique and one of those places difficult to describe by words ... I highly recommend just to go there and experience yourself. You won't regret! Definitively NOT!
Anyway, for the sake of review readers I'll try my best to find a suitable description: During my trip through the Balkan I had plenty of experiences on different campsites. All of them fulfilled their purpose, but only few of them were OUTSTANDING. Denise and Steve's authentic "Camp Full Monte" set the standard high for my future-time on campsites.
The truly warm-hearted and ever smiling hosts and their lovely dog Daisy treat you like family friends and make you feel like real guests rather then "just" clients. The place itself is a peaceful oasis in the middle of nowhere BUT still not far from the touristic hot-spot Herceg Novi. You are surrounded by beautiful nature, there are plenty of relaxing spots (hammocks, couches, mattresses, etc.) in the garden, lots of homemade outdoor games, a lovely library etc. ... In fact, it was IMPOSSIBLE to be bored although I stayed for 10 full days! :) In addition to all that previously mentioned "luxury" I could enjoy the whole camping experience without bad consciousness due to the ecological standards ... Solar energy, compost toilets, waste water recycling and veggies from the organic vegetable patches on the campsite ... WHAT ELSE WOULD ONE NEED??? Life is best when its simple!!!!
All the things I've mention where truly amazing BUT there is still one thing missing, the most IMPRESSIVE one from my subjective point of view: Never have I experienced such a family/community feeling as at "Camp Full Monte" ... I will never forget those beautiful moments shared with guests from around the world, listening to their touching life stories, chatting about the beauty of life. The place creates such a beautiful atmosphere which seems to encourage people to fully open themselves and show their full potentials .... THANK YOU, Steve and Denise, for this little peace of heaven!

My girlfriend Ilaria and I spent a couple of nights in this very nice camp in Montenegro. It is located on a gorgeous hill near the border with Croatia. The owners are welcoming and smiling people, and they will be glad to tell you about all the ingenious systems they built to make the camp as eco-friendly as possible: odorless eco-toilets, water recycling system, solar panels...everything works perfectly, the camp is clean & comfortable and the atmosphere is welcoming and easy-going. Check it out!

Steve, Denise and their dog Daisy are really fantastic hosts and own a great accommodation. We didn't book in advance but that was no problem. At first planning to stay just a couple of days, it became 9 days!!
They run a small eco-camp with exceptional clean facilities, a simple but good kitchen, big tent places, a vegetable garden and of course great hospitality. Denise is also a very good cook. She cooks almost every evening during the week and it's mostly from the veggie garden.
We were talking with them about the fact if naturism is good for their campsite. Not many people feel comfortable being naked. For us, it was our first experience in naturism and it couldn't be a better introduction. The fact that there is an option to wear clothes is making it easier to go here, especially if you're new to naturism. But we think that wearing clothes was more unpleasant than not wearing it. The atmosphere is really relaxed and no pressure about anything. We recommend this place for everybody, young, old, singles, couples and families!
Thank you for the good time you gave us!

My fifth (or sixth!) visit to this wonderful place. It would be difficult to find a more beautiful and relaxing spot -anywhere. Lovely location and extremely warm and caring hosts in Steve and Denis (and Daisy the dog who always seems to remember me). Perfect 'glamping' with comfy mattress and bedding -superb home prepared meals using local and home-grown produce. Nowhere better to chill out for a week or more in my view and totally unwind in a hammock or the lovely grounds. And the other guests have always been interesting, friendly and great to get to know.

We absolutely love this wonderfull place!!! We found it, fell in love with it and come back every year ever since. The place is beautifull, the accomodations are lovely, creatively built and clean. The owners are the best you can ever hope to encounter on any campsite. We have many memories sitting outside on warm nights, talking or just waiting for falling stars, in the daytime lounging or scouting for tortusses, admiring the big blue bees and walking Daisy in the blazing heat.
The atmosphere is so relaxed and warm (not just talking about the heat) And if you want a swim its not far from a small but fine naturist beach.....
Denise is the best cook ever, and veggies are from their wonderfull garden so the vegatables are not even aware of being picked when they end up on your plate. And...the the prices for all this are very, very friendly.
So...I'd say a 10 out of 10:-)

Just go - it's perfect

We are writing this mainly to help advertise this lovely campsite. Not because we are involved in it, or have anything to gain, beyond really wanting to support its continued existence, as this was such a lovely week off. You'll be greeted at the gate, and immediately feel at home - whether you are setting up your own tents or getting into an already fully set up tent provided by Denise and Steve. The campsite is idyllic - nice little stream, vegetable gardens, beautiful terraces, a lovely clean and totally off the grid and eco-friendly toilet, shower and kitchen block. It tends to be quite sociable and it felt almost like a group of friends by the time we left after only a week. There are hammocks, board games, lots of nice places to sit. Of course a large focus of the site is the naturist aspect, and I would only come if you are comfortable seeing naked people. No pressure to take off your own clothes though - just don't be upset at other people doing so. For those of you who are into the naturism side of things, this is a lovely place where there is none of the "should I shouldn't I" thing that sometimes happens at the larger naturist resorts... it's very friendly and within two minutes you don't think twice about it. The food is lovely - Denise spends most of her day picking the vegetables and cooking. There are two disadvantages - the distance from the sea and the lack of a swimming pool. However I think if you have your own car these are minimal issues, and we found it very easy to rent a car which Denise and Steve very kindly dropped us off picked us up from. Also fun to go on holiday and be able to just chat for hours with an intelligent couple who basically decided to take the plunge, leave the slightly stressed and frantic life of the UK and go abroad, and carve a beautiful home out of the side of a hill by sheer hard work. We are having our first child soon and we will definitely be going back next summer as it is now a safe option, hopefully with a few friends though! Montenegro as a country is fascinating and even in the face of hectic and frantic development in parts, they seem to be very focused on preserving the bits of the country that pull in the tourists, so expect beautiful scenery, and gorgeous old towns with lots of nice bars, cafes and restaurants. Think a less developed, less expensive version of Italy... However we actually only ate out once because the food on the campsite was just so good - and reasonably priced - we ate and drank for the entire week on €160 for two of us.
Another reason that would entice some people to go would be to find out a bit more about the eco/green side of living - this site is an absolute inspiration if you are interested in that side of things - with composting toilets, spring water, solar power etc... all done to such a high standard that you wonder why it's not commonplace worldwide - green living obviously doesn't have to be uncomfortable.
So if you want to be inspired, have a lovely holiday, have lots of great food at cheap prices, see a beautiful country, have nice chats, relax after a stressful year, be naked or not mind seeing naked people, are prepared to rent a car to explore properly and get to the (very nice) beaches... book now and go! Mainly so that their finances stay healthy and then we can go again next year :)

Best camp to chill out in the Balkans

I and my partner have visited Den and Steve's piece of paradise which they've lovingly created themselves just over the border from Croatia and Dubrovnik airport about 8 times over the last few years. This camp, more like a 'home' because this is how Den and Steve make you feel, is the ultimate place to unwind and if you can drag yourself away from the flower-filled gardens it is a great base from which to take day trips around this small but magnificent country. Otherwise, for the travel-weary or just if you feel a little lazy, sit in the sun in your comfortable sofa among the flowers and enjoy the views over the peaceful countryside. If you want a little gentle exercise before returning to your hammock in the shade then take friendly Daisy Marmite the dog for a walk through the hills to the Croatian border. Nights, chat over a drink with your fellow travelers under the stars and enjoy Den's delicious gourmet food for less than the price of a burger back home. You can retire to one of the variously sized comfortable tents supplied by your hosts complete with comfy mattress, pillows and duvet or bring your own tent. I should also say that the camp is as eco-green as can be and the showers hot as you want and toilets spotless. Finally a warning- you may never want to camp with your clothes on again.

Natural beauty, great facilities

This is the best campsite I have been to in the Balkans, by a long way. The site is a great balance of natural beauty and greenery (lots of shade from trees, stream running along the side of the site, wild flowers etc) whilst being lovingly cared for by the owners who have created this green paradise in old olive groves. The relaxed and friendly owners, Den and Steve, have built an extensive organic vegetable garden and made the site so beautiful with lots of flowering plants. The pitches give plenty of privacy; the best bit is listening to the sounds of the night (the site is away from civilisation) then the birds in the morning, plus the stream from the comfort of your tent. Which brings me to the tents - wow! I don't usually rent tents but on this occasion I couldn't bring my camping gear so decided to rent one of their fabulous tents - they provide everything you need including an extremely comfy bed and clean fresh bedding. It was posh camping!
The site has a lovely ambience and a great social space if you want to join in. Den cooks a great value dinner for those who want it - but you can also use all the kitchen facilities if you want to make your own food. I am vegetarian and she always made sure I had plenty to eat!
Great memories of a very special place - evenings around the campfire, stargazing (no light pollution), peaceful lazy afternoons in the hammock.
It is a very special place.

BEST PLACE to stay in Montenegro // Camping site

Great place to stay for camping!!
Very nice and open minded staff (Denise & Steve).
The food Denise cooked was also very delicious and a very good value for money. The other vistiors were also very nice, interesting and well educated. No loud tacky disco people - as on the beaches at the camping sites...
To have a car is very helpful to discover the great nature around.
Denise and Steve also do lifts around the village and helping out - by getting a good car deal.
Also, to do trips around - Denise and Steve have good partners to organize a guide for a trekking tour around the beautiful nature. We did a great rafting tour on the Tara river - good service, delicious food for a well-priced offer.
***the tents of Denise + Steve are the best - with a real mattress, a proper bedding and a well choosen place to be loacated(much shade as possible)
We are visting them again!!!

Wonderful eco-friendly, clothes-optional camping

We had a fantastic time staying at Full Monte back in June 2012. The campsite is tucked away on a lovely hillside, close to the border with Croatia.
Steve and Den are perfect hosts, and get the balance just right with friendly service and leaving you to enjoy their beautiful little paradise.
The best thing about Full Monte is that it's clothes optional, and it's the perfect environment to try a bit of outdoor nudity if you haven't before. There was no pressure either way so it's a gentle introduction, but the climate and setting mean you'll probably enjoy your time even more if you do join in; it's the perfect complement to the natural setting.
What else... well, our rented tent was very comfy (proper mattress and duvet under canvas was a revelation!), and Den's home-cooked meals, made with organic ingredients grown on the site, were a wonderful way to end each day. If you're after a truly relaxing place to stay in Montenegro you won't find better.

A real garden of eden

Review of Roy from South East England / United Kingdom, January 2014

Travel date: June 2012
Age: 40-49 years
Length of stay: 4-7 Days
Type of accommodation: Tent (personal)

I have stayed at Camp Full Monte on two occasions, initially as a couple and then on my own. The campsite is tucked away in the middle of nowhere, but surprisingly easy to locate, and is surrounded on all 4 sides by nature at its best. It's remote location provides for an incredible night sky where even the rings of Saturn are visible with binoculars. Its remote location also means that there is very little traffic (a few farmers pass by the site oblivious to the residents behind the fence created from large leaves to blend in with the surroundings), sleep at night is accompanied by the pleasant sounds of nature and no traffic noise.
The hosts, Steve and Den, really make the campsite. They ensure that staff are available throughout the day and the evening and are the prefect hosts. An evening is usually spent chatting or playing board games. The evening meal is a a sociable affair and all guests sit together around a long table. The food (this costs a few Euro's extra but worth it) is excellent and freshly prepared by Den.
The campsite is under constant transformation as each year volunteers, directed by Steve, attend to maintenance activities, build walls and create shelters. As self styled "eco-warriors" Steve and Den act like modern day Wombles and use whatever is freely available.
The campsite is clothing optional which means exactly hat "optional". Some guests discard their clothes whilst others continue to wear them and everyone feels comfortable with this arrangement. During my stays guests were happy to use this simply as a campsite and never felt compelled to lose their clothes. That said, Steve must have the cheapest laundry bill in the developed world.
Montenegro is an absolute delight. Most have never heard of it and the absence of an international airport means it will remain so. Getting to the campsite could not be easier though, less than an hours drive from Dubrovnik (ask Steve and Den for the route to avoid the main border crossing), the campsite lies literally feet over the border - in fact when Daisy-Marmite takes you for a walk, as she will, you can walk along one of the many narrow tracks into Croatia.
I wouldn't hesitate to book Camp Full Monte again and would strongly recommend to anyone looking for a high quality camping experience in a totally undiscovered country.

Excursion tips: Anywhere along the Bay of Kotar.

Denise and Steve offer a very quiet, compact camp site just over the border (with Croatia) in Montenegro. The overall concept is that you can travel with just a few clothes as the tent is provided and benefit from breakfast and a group supper in the evening.
I really enjoyed the simplicity of it all. My fellow campers were intelligent, happy and interesting people who cared about ecology and the benefits of meeting other nationalities.
I found it highly relaxing and I liked the daytime warmth and comparative (easy to sleep) coolness in the evening.
I plan to return with my girlfriend in 2014.
